Business models are changing rapidly. The traditional market place now has an online presence and so do customers. For every business, having a website is the first step in winning the e-commerce war. However, a website is not useful if your customers don’t know it exists and can’t visit to check out your offerings. This means you must market your website and drive traffic to it; there are so many ways to achieve this.
1. Set up a Google My Business Listing
Google My Business (GMB) is a business listing owned by Google that allows you register your business details such as Company name, Contact Details, Website Link amongst other details. Similar to V-Connect, GMB is far more effective than other online business directories because Google is considered a reputable company. Its business listing is known to guarantee a 70% chance of attracting location visit and a 50% chance of attracting a purchase.
A core element of Search Engine Optimization, GMB brings up registered businesses on the listing, when web visitors use certain search terms relating to that business. For example, someone in need of a gym Googles ‘gym Ikeja’. If you own a gym in Ikeja, you will want your business to appear in the search results.
2. E-Mail Marketing
E-mail marketing via regular newsletters is a great way to stay connected to your target audience. It is also useful in directing traffic to your website, provided links to relevant pages are included. A lot of thought must be put into crafting the e-mail subject lines because it determines whether the email will be opened or not. You would also have to build a list of contacts that would be receiving these emails. Schedule them appropriately so your customers are not bombarded unduly with your emails.
3. Social Media Marketing
This involves marketing your products and services by sharing and posting great content on social media platforms visited by your target audience. It could be Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin, YouTube, Reddit etc. These posts must be linked to your website. Participate in group discussions and leverage on relevant hashtags. It is not unusual to drop links to relevant landing pages on your website in comment sections. Don’t forget to engage with your target audience; like their posts and respond to their questions. Social media is meant for interaction so interact; it is not a broadcast channel.
4. Social Media Advertising
While the first three methods of driving website traffic involve no cost, social media advertising would entail planning a budget. Placing ads on Facebook, Instagram or Google, can generate sufficient website traffic and even conversion, if your ads are enticing.
5. Influencer Marketing
This means identifying, engaging and supporting people, capable of generating high-impact conversations online; what we call the social media influencers. While they might be costly, their influence in the social media space can drive tons of people to your site if they make a post about your company, product or service.
This is just a summary of how to make your website go viral; there are lots of methods like display advertising, search engine optimization, search engine marketing and video advertising. The trick is knowing the best channels to use for your business and focusing on them. This is determined by your target audience and the online channels they use.
